Multi-casting

NewsRoom 45 relies on the multi-cast messaging system to function correctly on your NewsRoom 45 network.  The values for the multi-cast address and port are configured in the NfsAdmin program on the NewsRoom server machine.  See the NewsRoom Options menu for administering these values.

Note that when these settings are updated you will need to perform the following actions:

  • Service load on the Netfileshare service.
  • Restart the cast service.
  • Restart the wire store.
  • NewsRoom clients will need to be restarted to retrieve the updated settings.

If problems exist with clients receiving messages on your network, consider the following areas to test:

  • A firewall may be blocking the outbound port on the server or on the inbound port on the client.  See  NewsRoom and XP FireWall
  • Not a member of the same work group or domain.
  • The sub-net mask is not the same as the server.
  • The router may have multi-casting turned off on your router. This is often the default setting. See advanced multi-casting.

NOTE:  In Windows Server 2008, a problem was found on servers with multiple network adapters. Unused network adapters had to be disabled in order for refresh multicast messages to work correctly
