Upgrading NewsRoom 4 to NewsRoom 45
Stop all services
- Remove all services:
- Borland Socket service
- Audiotransfer service
- ConfigStore Service
- Itemstore service
- Wirestrore service
- KLZNRCastserver
- Remove Q-Design with
Add Remove Programs
Remove the Share on the Newsroom40 folder.
Remove shortcuts to all NR4 programs on desktop / same on Capture computer
Backup and check for wirecapture settings/ Sbin / make new folder in NR45 to keep settings
Stop Internet Information Server / we do not need the NRAudio virtual folder anymore. ( check they do not use IIS for others apps)
Take old programs out of the startup directory ( capture)
Inform IT that the old Ports can now be shut down:

Inform IT personnel new Port for external fire walls is Port 87 should be opened. Default.
A - Install Location
We can use the existing audiolists, itemstores, and casts more easily if we install in the existing Newsroom40 directory. This also allows for the config store to continue running
However, once the item stores have been upgraded during NewsRoom 45 installation and the casts will be written by the new cast server, these data stores will not be accessible for NewsRoom40.
We can install in a new directory (ie D:\Newsroom 45 \) and copy the data we need across to the new path. Audiolists may not resolve depending on how and when the audiolists were made. Also all of the prior references to audio activeX controls in itemstore items and cast stories will not be valid unless the old NewsRoom40 tree is maintained. We then have two newsroom directories.
Both approaches have their advantages and potential draw backs.
Recommended action: Install in Current NewsRoom40 directory.
Rename Current NewsRoom40 Directory, Install the MSI to to NewsRoom40, Copy/Move data from old tree as appropriate.
B - Installing the MSI
Note: Backup up the config pages before running the MSI install if installing in the same path. An early MSI bug would remove existing config pages from the server. The config pages are found on the file system at 'NewsRoomPath\Sys\etc\NrConfig\
Note: The Base UNC path for newsroom must include a trailing slash.
C - Upgrading Storage Databases
1. Config Pages
The config pages may be maintained from the NewsRoom40 installation. These pages will be missing the various properties pages however and these will be imported during the NewsRoom 45 installation. If you decide to use the default config pages included in the installation they can be found in the NewsRoom45/Install/ directory
2. Item Stores
Item stores are converted during installation of NewsRoom 45 server.
3. Casts
Cast files are updated automatically by the cast server
4. Contacts
Contacts are converted from the NfsAdmin program
5. AudioLists
Audiolists do not need to be upgraded.
Backup up the config pages before running the MSI install if installing in the same path.
D - Making users
User item stores will be imported to the system during the installation of NewsRoom45.
