General Preparation For a NewsRoom5 Server Install


1. Before We Begin:

Prior to the installation of NewsRoom 5 server, it is important that we have all the necessary files, and information before beginning.


Information you will need before you Start

What is your site name?  This is usually your stations primary call sign, or call letters. (example: CKLZ)


Files You Will Need

  • NewsRoom Server Install Package
  • Firebird Database Install Package
  • A NewsRoom License file or activation code


Server Requirements

What is the Name and IP address of your Server ?

Your server operating system should be service patched to the latest version before you begin.

Which drive partition, and folder will you be installing the system on ?


Licensing

Does the server have access to the internet ?

- If the answer is "Yes" then you will need a "License Activation Code".

- If the Answer is "No" then you will need to perform a "Manual License Install"


Audio Automation

What type of  automation system will you be connecting to, and exporting to ?  

Where will the exported audio files be placed for ingestion into the automation system ?

What are the network privileges required to export audio to a shared folder ?


Network Requirements

Will the NewsRoom system be on a work group, or a domain ?

Do the users have network permissions to connect to the server ?


Anti Virus

What 3rd party antivirus is the system using ?

Do you know how to make exclusions, if necessary, to allow NewsRoom 5 to operate correctly ?


2. Preparing The System

  1. Set "Computer Name", if it still has the installation default.
  2. Validate Network access to LAN and WAN
  3. Check HDD and system memory 
  4. Perform ALL windows updates
  5. Uninstall Any Newsroom Services .. Firebird 32, etc.
  6. Uninstall previous MSI (if testing - uninstall services)
  7. Check for 3rd party anti virus programs
